Overview

The Vireo Ka 576 communications payload builds on the architecture and production heritage of the Vireo Ka 288 system, scaling aperture and beam capacity to support high-throughput Ka-band communications missions.

Active electronically steered array (AESA) antennas enable multi-beam operation for simultaneous uplink and downlink connectivity, while FPGA-based RF and signal processing support waveform flexibility and on-orbit reconfigurability across mission sets. The large aperture architecture enables high user density and expanded network capacity while maintaining common processing and manufacturing foundations across the Vireo Ka payload family.

Key Capabilities

Integrated Networking and Onboard Processing

  • RPU supports Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking within the payload
  • Enables routing, coordination, and data handling on orbit

Multi-Beam Density and User Capacity

  • Supports up to 16 simultaneous beams
  • Enables multi-user frequency division multiplexing (FDM)

Large Aperture for High Throughput and Coverage

  • Phased array architecture improves gain and spectral efficiency
  • Expands data throughput and coverage per satellite

Flexible RF and Waveform Processing

  • Supports multiple RF channels, modulation schemes, and coding profiles
  • Enables mission-specific configuration and adaptation

Built on the Proven Vireo Architecture

  • Derived from the TRL 8 Vireo Ka 288 system
  • Maintains common processing and manufacturing foundation

Vireo Ka 576 RPU Interface Emulator

The RPU Interface Emulator enables flight-like digital validation of Vireo payload architectures before RF integration, allowing teams to develop, test, and integrate with confidence.

With direct access to SpaceVPX interfaces, onboard processing, and system interconnects, teams can prototype and refine mission configurations in a controlled lab environment. Removing RF hardware from the loop enables focused development of digital signal chains, data flow, and control software ahead of full payload integration.

The result is faster iteration, reduced integration risk, and a clearer path from development to flight.
