CESIUM MISSION 1

Cesium Mission 1 (CM1) is CesiumAstro's first mission to launch and operate our own hardware in space. CM1 provides an on-orbit platform for customer experiments that push the boundaries of small satellite communication. In addition, it gives Cesium the capability to demonstrate advanced features of our technology such as dynamic waveform switching and dynamic link optimization. With the launch of Mission 1, Cesium will have a complete commercial phased array communication system in LEO orbit.

 

The CM1 ground segment includes Cesium ground stations and the GlobalStar network for persistent command and telemetry. Cesium is developing ground stations at office locations in Texas and Colorado. These ground stations can communicate with the spacecraft over both payload and telemetry links.  Additionally, the ground stations are remote-operable on the Cesium network across Cesium locations.

 CS 1 PAYLOAD

Cesium Satellite 1 (CS1) is a 6U CubeSat with Cesium Nightingale 1 active phased array payload. The spacecraft has a high-accuracy attitude system with a star tracker and a state-of-the-art electric propulsion system.

CM1 CONOPS

Cesium Satellite 1 (CS1) launched to orbit in 2021.

Rocket upper stage reaches primary payload orbit (2) and primary payload is deployed (3). Rocket upper stage transfers to 550km orbit (4) and Cesium Satellite 1 is deployed (5).

Low-thrust inclination change from 97.6° Sun-synchronous orbit to non-Sun-synchronous orbit.

Orbit rotation to dawn-dusk orbit.

Low-thrust inclination change to Sun-synchronous orbit for operations at dawn-dusk 550km.

Decommissioning phase, low-thrust spiral to deorbit.
